My own considerable experience with satnav is that it leaves me free to keep my eyes on traffic instead of hunting for directions on roadside signs. Satnav systems cannot be equated with in-car entertainment which may, for a variety of reasons not associated with the driving task in hand, take over part of the thought and thinking process required to drive a car safely.
